My Background...
It all started long ago, in a far away land... Well, New Hampshire actually, but that couldn't matter less. These days I live in Connecticut, and I design websites for a living.
My interest in photography began when my kids were little. Like most parents, we had a video camera that we took to all their school events and family gatherings, on vacation, etc. But over time I found myself being drawn
toward still photography, and it became something of a hobby for me.
My two boys were both into sports - soccer in particular, and I became the unofficial "team photographer" for many of their travel, premier and school teams. In order to share my photos with the other parents and players on the team, I would create small photo gallery websites.
Occasionally, one of the other parents would ask for a copy of a particular shot, and of course I always obliged. Then one day, one of the Moms asked if she could BUY an 8x10 of her son along with the team photo. Although I gave her the prints she requested for free, the seed had been planted.
It had never occurred to me that I could actually earn money taking pictures. Since I already had a job that I enjoyed, I wasn't really looking for another source of income. But there it was - an opportunity to earn money doing something that I truly enjoy.
Since I lacked any formal training in photographic technique, I enrolled in New York Institute of Photography's "Complete Course in Professional Photography". The course has helped me to understand WHY one photograph is more appealing than another, and has given me the knowledge required to put those concepts into practice. The course gets my highest recommendation.
Anyway, while I continue to take photos primarily for pleasure, I'm also available for various assignments. My forte is in portraiture and sports photography, but I would welcome inquiries of any type.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, and for checking out my website. I invite you to send any questions or comments to Dan@DesrochesPhotography.com. Have a great day!
